News

We have lots of news to share and stories to tell as we work towards our goal of building a paediatric respite and hospice care centre in Durham Region.  Publishing our Annual Report and sending out our newsletters are just two of the ways we connect with families, caregivers, partners and supporters.  Please enjoy the links below, follow us on social media or visit the Contact Us page to be added to our mailing list.

Annual Report 2023-2024

It’s been an exciting year for us at Sloane’s House and we are glad to share what we have been up to during 2023/24.

First and foremost, we continued to focus on our vision to build the first paediatric respite and hospice care centre in Durham Region. Sloane’s House will be a welcoming “home away from home” where children with complex medical care needs, and their families, feel cared for by experienced professionals, based on the shared values, beliefs, needs, hopes and goals for the present and the future. We have been deeply encouraged with all the support we’ve had from the community, organizations and various levels of government.

Annual Report 2022-2023

Welcome to our 2022/2023 Annual Report and thank you for your ongoing support of Sloane’s House. The past year was a busy one for the Board and staff of Sloane’s House as we continued to work towards our goal of building Sloane’s House, a paediatric respite and hospice care centre for children, youth and their families here in Durham Region.  Please take a moment to view the Report which details our activities over the past year, shares some photos, introduces you to our Board and thanks our donors.  If you are interested in becoming a Sloane’s House volunteer, please head to the Contact Us page. Opportunities are available to join the Board, join a committee, help with fundraising and so much more.

Fall Newsletter – November 2023

Our Fall Newsletter includes an invitation to join one of our committees, pictures from our fun-filled Sloane’s Day, and some interesting facts that you may not know.

Special Edition Newsletter – July 2023

It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that Amy Archer, Sloane’s House first Executive Director, will be stepping down from her position as of July 29, 2023.  Amy became Executive Director in November 2020 and over her two and a half years led the organization through the challenges of the pandemic, delivering us even stronger when we resumed our in-person activities, including our annual golf tournament. Well-known in Durham Region before joining Sloane’s House, Amy’s prior knowledge and experience as a Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Consultant (PPSMC), membership on the original team who opened the doors to Emily’s House pediatrics hospice centre in Toronto, and 10 years working in the area of Hematology Oncology at Sick Kids brought authenticity and inspiration to the story of Sloane’s House.
